Many times, cleansing our face after working outside in the hot weather or after an intense workout at the gym requires a different product than our usual one that we apply after a long day at the office.   

I live in Florida where it is already quite warm and have been using our Ladies Blend Purify & Clarify Facial Cleanser & Masque after gardening, raking, scrubbing-you know, all the things we have to do to get our yards (and ourselves!) into shape.  The ingredients:  Organic Blue Corn Meal,  White Kaolin Clay, Ground Oats, Organic Orange Peel Powder, Organic Rosehips Powder gently cleanse and exfoliate.  I am quite pleased with the way my sensitive skin looks and feels afterwords. 

I mix a bit of the powder in the palm of my hand with a drizzle of water to make a paste and with my fingers, apply it to my face.  The only different thing that I do when my skin is rather dirty and/or sweaty is:  after I apply it in a gentle circular motion, I leave it on until it drys, about 5 minutes or so, then rinse.  My skin feels soft, supple and very clean, with no irritation what-so-ever.

Another Rainy Day

It has been a rainy weekend here, I love the rain, it sort of gives me permission to be lazy.  I am hoping it will let off just a little so I can zip out and grill our dinner though.  I took advantage of the down time and clicked around looking at lots of blogs today, that is always fun to do. 

I thought that the website for our expansion would be a piece of cake given that is not equipped with a fancy shipping cart, but not so, I changed it again.  I decided yesterday to add another component, and after reviewing it all, I just had to take the plunge and re-do it...again, third time's a charm!  I need one more day to dedicate to it, then it will be ready for the public.

I have been keeping my facial chair and aromatherapy steamer in my home office for several days now, having the girls over for a facial party before our opening.   Have a wonderful week! 

Organic Tea Time

Up until recently, I would always have my cup of tea in the evening, now if that mid-morning slump hits, I reach for a cup organic red or green rooibos tea.  I brew a pot every couple of days and keep a pitcher in the refrigerator, so I just have to warm it a bit. 

Living in the South for over twenty years, people are surprised that I do not consume loads of iced sweet tea.  The truth is after my one cup of coffee and juice in the morning, I drink only water the entire day, even if I go out to lunch. 

And I am not really fond of my tea cold, I enjoy the smoothness that only comes from a nice cup of warm or hot tea, and I would never ever add sugar to it. 

I love to sip a cup of tea during my wait times at the spa.  I wish they had tea at the Dr's. office waiting room and something different on the TV, other than CNN, like maybe HGTV or the Fine Living Channel!

New Beauty Business Update

As we get closer to opening Ladies Blend pure beauty, I'll begin to share little snippets of each stage. 

Since I last posted about this new business, I have completely re-designed the website from its drafting status of several weeks ago. I love black and white pictures and decided to use that theme for the website.

I think that the pictures for the website look elegant, beautiful and are very reminiscent of the spa like atmosphere that I will be creating.  I will share the website link as soon as all of the loose ends are tied up-very soon.

I designed a rough draft of our brochure and included some of the same pictures that are on the website.  For the brochure though, I decided to use the color pictures, instead of the black and white theme.  I think for a small size project, the color pictures look more attractive and appealing, though I kept in line with the theme; a simple, elegant design that is easy to read and entices you to experience a treatment or two.

We have a couple of beautiful locations that we are considering, but as you may know we had a death in our family last week.  My father-in-law passed away on Monday morning, so last week was spent with my husband and helping him through the days to follow.  I will have an update on the location soon. 

Ladies Blend pure beauty

We are pleased to announce that Ladies Blend will be opening an office in Melbourne, Florida in the Spring/Summer of 2008. 

The name of our new business is Ladies Blend pure beauty, this is an excerpt from our newly designed website:  At Ladies Blend pure beauty, we combine therapeutic massage techniques with fresh, natural & organic beauty treatments, to nurture and nourish mind, body & soul.  We celebrate unique style and pamper you with our exclusive line of pure beauty products, handmade & cruelty free.  Our service menu includes beneficial and pampering treatments for face, hands & feet.

Even though this will not be an Internet business I feel that all businesses do well with the support of a even a simple website.  I bought the domain name and designed a very basic site using a TypePad blog and domain mapping.  Since there is no shopping cart to tend with, this is an economical solution and does not require a webmaster.  Thanks to domain mapping, the URL is my business name.com, nice and easy to do! 

There is still a some additional content to be added to the site, along with a printable client form, a bit of tweaking and pricing.  Since Ladies Blend is my brand, I may in time route a link to that site for folks in other areas throughout the US that would like to buy gift certificates for the local people here.

You will notice no difference at the Ladies Blend website and eventually we will be offering select retail products at our new location.

You can keep up with my new dream business here at our Ladies Blend blog, I'll be posting the link to the Ladies Blend pure beauty site as soon as it is a bit more refined.

Ladies Blend Schedule Reminders

This Saturday, December 15 is the last day to order items from our website for Christmas delivery.

The Ladies Blend Office will be closing at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 and will re-open Friday, January 4, 2008, on this day, we will return all phone calls and emails.  Monday, January 7, we are back in full force and will begin processing orders.

We have sent our last email newsletter until after our return.  Keep signing up though, we have some fun and interesting content planned for 2008.  You can sign up here or on our website and remember, upon our return from vacation, we will have a drawing for two beautiful gift packages that will be awarded to two of our newsletter subscribers.

Our blog will have minimal "fresh Ladies Blend content" for the next couple of weeks.  Over the next week or so, I'll be featuring recipes from our Sweet Thymes category every few days and after that I may post some pictures of a project that I'll be working on during my time off.  I am an aunt (again) and a great aunt (first time) and am going to try my hand at making some keepsake items.  Really looking forward to that!

A Note from Pennie of Ladies Blend

As far as Internet shopping for Christmas goes at Ladies Blend, I can now say that next week is THE WEEK.  This will be the last week that you can order to ensure that we will get the packages out in a timely fashion as requested by our carriers.   Of course once they leave our hands, it is as they say, "out of hands", but I do feel confident that UPS & USPS will do the best they can to deliver the masses. 

You may have remembered in a previous post that I mentioned Ladies Blend Money and next week you will be seeing some of that, along with some pretty great specials. If you sign up for our Newsletter, you are bound to reap even more of our last week to shop for Christmas discounts.

Finally, the great search has ended and I have secured what I think is a perfect gift box for all year round.  It is a true two piece sturdy white gift box, embellished with a blue/green grosgrain ribbon and small gift card tucked inside an envelope.  It is all set for gift giving, there are none of our labels on the outside, you cannot see through it or peek at it until after the beautiful ribbon is untied with one pull and the top is lifted off.  We'll have a picture posted of it soon, it is truly beautiful with an upscale, timeless look, that will put a sparkle in the recipients eyes and make them feel very special.  I am quite pleased with the final product and proud to offer it as part of our collection.

I do enjoy decorating modestly, I hope those of you that are in the swing of it are enjoying the festivities that this time of year brings about. 

My feeling is that Christmas is in our hearts, please remember to extend yours to a neighbor or anyone in need that could do better with some assistance and good cheer from you. 

A few things to keep in mind

• Did you know that arranging a bouquet of flowers can be quite stressful if it is not your cup of tea?  It is true.  Have the florist or arrange flowers yourself in a pretty vase before presenting them, this is especially helpful to an elderly person or someone that may have limited movement.
• Now is a good time to clean out our closets and donate clothes, blankets, towels and many other things to local shelters and those in need.  If you can, have everything clean, folded neatly or hung on hangers.  This way there is no extra work involved for the volunteers that you deliver the goods to. 
• Local shelters include those for our furry friends too.  Every area has homeless pet organizations that are always in need of old blankets, litter, food and more.
• Needless to say donations of food are very important, there are usually boxes in the larger supermarkets where you can drop in human and pet food, making it easier than ever for us help out the less fortunate.

Many of us feel more giving this time of year, but all these things could and should be done by those that can, all through the year.

I hope those of you that celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful day yesterday, I am happy to have delicious left-overs!  One thing I found yesterday, is that I cannot follow a recipe for sweet potatoes.  I tried and spent more time looking for ingredients and finally just did "my thing" and it flowed effortlessly and tasted perfect. 

I re-decorated my master bath (Wednesday night) a little bit and also have a good start on the fudge (last night) that I am making for the bazaar at Leeza's Place next Friday.  I managed to get 10 pounds made, unmolded and stored in the freezer.  I'll probably make another 20 pounds sometime this weekend.  I have some cute packaging ideas, I'll be sure to take pictures.

I am enjoying some time off and plan to hem a pair of new curtains that I bought for the bathroom, eat, nap, take a long soak and watch movies today.  It has been a long time since I had a day like this, it feels scrumptious.

Ladies Blend Included In A Special Report for Organic Business News

Back in September Christine Blank, Senior Editor for the Organic Business News and I had a telephone interview regarding organic personal care products.  If you have ever done one of those you know how it ends-you say to yourself-"gosh, I hope I sounded okay!" and "I hope they got it (what I said) right!".  I did and she did-thank you!

Organic calendula and organic fair trade chamomile are infused into the olive oil, no solvent (alcohol) extracts are used to extract the herbs, only pure oil and herbs.   Calendula has been used by physicians to treat minor infections and skin irritations, it is extremely gentle and is suitable for those with compromised immune systems.  Chamomile is confirmed by research to be useful in treating minor skin conditions, it is known to calm and is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.
